Nigella Express: Episode 6

Breakfast Bars was the name of the game this past week.

And I really cannot take any of the credit for it because Nate whipped these up while I was in class. We wanted to get another new recipe in before we left for Mexico, so we thought what better thing to make to take to the Dells for our family getaway.

Well.....turns out maybe not the best. The thing is they tasted good. But the condensed milk sank to the bottom giving the bars this weird texture of dry on top, and soggy on the bottom.

But on the bright side, Nate gets some mad props for his amazing food stylings. You can see the coconut, the nuts, the oats...

Actually if you look at the food periodic table you will see the atomic weight of condensed milk outweighs most other food ingredients. Heck just by definition alone, it is condensed ie packed together more tightly, bringing to mind the example of which weighs more? a pound of light fluffy feathers or a pound of lead? if you baked with the feathers and lead (I think mom tried this once with chicken...) of course the lead sinks to the bottom. The condensed milk ended up on the bottom by design giving you more depth to the bar as you degust the tasty little morsel. Really this just means I think Nate made them correctly and should be allowed to play WOW.
PS Nate you can send premium by UPS.

Turns out, like a fine cheese, the older these bars get the more tasty become. I had some crumbles last night that were really good. I will definately have to work on perfecting the execution of this recipe.
